The ARTE Quartet was formed in 1993 by the four saxophonists Beat Hofstetter, Sascha Armbruster, Andrea Formenti and Beat Kappeler. The quartet is active in the performance of new music and its bordering regions. The ARTE Quartet performs almost exclusively music which is composed and arranged especially for it.
The four saxophonists work in close association with composers and are often involved in the development process of the composition itself. This has led in recent years to projects in cooperation with Urs Leimgruber, Hans Feigenwinter, Terry Riley, Tim Berne, Fred Frlth, Nick Didkovsky, Michael Rlessler, David Torn and Pierre Favre. The ARTE Quartet have performed in various concert series, at festivals in Switzerland and abroad and have made numerous recordings for CD and Radio.
