Biography

Ulrich Gasser, *19. 04. 1950. Composer and flutist. Studied with André Jaunet (flute) and Klaus Huber (composition). Active pedagogue. "Secrétaire artistique" of the STV/ASM. Lives on the coast of Lake Geneva and in France.

Composer and flutist born in Frauenfeld, lives in Tolochenaz in canton Waadt and La Chapelle sous Brancion in France.
Subsequent to the completion of his musical studies at Winterthur Conservatory (main subject transverse flute) Ulrich Gasser studied further under André Jaunet at Zurich Conservatory and simultaneously six semesters of composition under Klaus Huber at the 'Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik Freiburg im Breisgau'.
1976 until 2004 - Teacher at the 'Pädagogischen Maturitätsschule' in Kreuzlingen. Many years cooperation with Pro Musica in Zurich and in the music commission of the 'Künstler-hauses Boswil'.
1992 until 1998 - First president of the 'Forum andere Musik' in Kreuzlingen
1994 until 2003 - Chairman of the Swiss Music Edition (SME/EMS)
1999 until 2003 - On the executive board of the association 'Suisseculture'
1998 until 2004 - On the executive board of the Swiss Association of Musicians (STV/ASM), two years of which were served as chairman. Serves in the office in Lausanne since the autumn of 2004 being responsible for all questions of a musical nature.
Participation in various competitions and seminars with accolades ('Komponisten-Seminare Boswil', 'Gaudeamus-Musikwochen Bilthoven', 'Darmstädter Ferienkurse'; 2nd pirize of the Ensemblia, 1982 in Mönchengladbach, 1st Prise at the competition for composition organised by the Bach Academy in Stuttgart, 1985.)
1991 - Awarded the culture prize by the canton of Aargau
Performances at festivals such as those at Donaueschingen, Kassel, Saarbrücken, Venice and at several Swiss musician's festivals.
Numerous radio and CD productions.
Since 2006 on the executive board of the European Composers Forum ECF.
