Biography

Born in Berne, Urs Peter Schneider is a composer and improviser, an interpreter and educationalist.
From 1959 until 1966 he studied under the tutelage of Walter Lang and prof. Bruno Seidlhofer (piano) and prof. Sandor Veress and Karlheinz Stockhausen (composition) in Berne, Cologne and Berlin. 1968 Saw the founding of the 'Ensemble Neue Horizonte Bern' now with over 800 concerts, radio broadcasts and appearances under its belt. He made a total of twelve recordings between the years 1967 and 1999, partly with composed programmes.
In 1983 he received a large financial award for music from the canton of Berne and six further prizes as a pianist and composer between the years 1964 and 1987. From 1955 until 1999 he produced twelve dozen compositions in all genres with over two thousand performances in the whole of Europe, America and Russia.
Urs Peter Schneider has been a professor for theory and ensemble play at the 'Musikhochschule Bern' (Berne School of Music) since 2002. More recently, he has begun appearing as a performer, often with his own text compositions. He is a specialist for (pre)classical and conceptual music.
