Biography

Fritz Voegelin was born in Zurich. He received his diploma in violin from Bern Conservatory and his chapel-master diploma from the ‘Musik-Akademie Basel’ (Basel Academy of Music). He studied composition under Klaus Huber and Robert Suter and conducting under Hans Swarowsky in Vienna. He is founder and director of the Fribourg Chamber Orchestra and principal conductor of the ‘Orchestre de la ville’ at the University of Fribourg. He is a guest conductor of the Swiss symphony Orchestra (Bern, Basel, Lugano). In 1984 he was appointed the position of cultural director in residence at the Columbian National Conservatory and in 1988 as chief conductor of the ‘Orquesta Sinfonica de Antioquia’. He is professor of conducting at the university of Antioquia. He is also a guest conductor of the Columbian National Orchestra and the Venezuela National Philharmonic. Since 1992 he lives again as a composer and conductor in Switzerland. He has won many national and international composition prizes and received numerous commissions for compositions.
