Biography
Michel Hostettler was born in Avenches. He was educated at the college and conservatory in Geneva under Bernard Reichel and André-François Marescotti (composition and orchestration).
He conducts numerous choirs including the 'Petit Choeur du Collège de Montreux'. He is married with two children and lives in Vevey.
In 1987 he was prize winner of the 'Grand Prix de Musique' of the 'Fondation vaudoise pour la promotion et la création artistique'. Numerous secular and ecclesiastic works for choir can be found in his work catalogue, examples include 'Surge, illuminare' (premiere in Montreux 1985) and 'Beati' (premiere in Romainmôtier 1989).
His work also encompasses chamber music for diverse formations and pieces for orchestra, examples include 'Petite Suite' (world premiere in Brussels performed by the ' Orchestre des Collèges laussanois' under the direction of J. Pache) or ' Sphères' (a work for strings, premiered by the Bern Chamber Orchestra under the direction of J.-P. Moeckli in 1988 and recorded in June 1991 performed by the ' Orchestre de la Suisse Romande' under the direction of J. Lopez-Cobos) and 'Diptyque' (a commission for RTSA - French / Swiss radio and television – for violin and orchestra which was premiered at the Tibor Varga Festival, Sion in August 1991).
His string quartet (commissioned by the 'Pro Helvetia' foundation) is dedicated to 'Quator Sine Nomine', and premiered in St Petersberg in 1993.
Michel Hostettler was one of the composers at the 'Fête des Vignerons', 1999 in Vevey.
