Biography

Robert Zimansky is one of the most versatile violinists of his of his generation. Following early studies under the tuition of John Ferrel, he continued his training at the Juilliard School in New York under Ivan Galamian and Sally Thomas. He travelled to Europe in 1972 and occupied the concertmaster chair in several orchestras, including the first at the Spoleto, Munich, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva. Robert Zimansky has performed as a solo violinist with many of the world's most renowned conductors including Sawallisch, Stein, Dutoit, Zinman, Blomstedt, Inbal, Herbig and Jordan. He plays in various chamber music formations. Zimansky is artistic director of the Ensembles Fiacorda and plays in a piano trio together with Boris Mersson and Robert Merkler. He currently holds the position of professor at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva and at the Musikhochschule Zürich.
