Biography
* 22. 07. 1927, † 29. 03. 2007.

Giuseppe G. Englert was born in Fiesole in italy. In 1938 his family moved to Switzerland where he attended first the college of Ascona and then that of Einsiedeln. From 1945 until 1948 he studied organ under the tutelage of Heinrich Funk at Zurich Conservatory and composition under Willy Burkhard. He subsequently relocated to Paris where he undertook further organ studies under André Marchal. From 1955 onwards, Engelert attended the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music where he encountered René Leibowitz, John Cage, Stefan Wolpe, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Mauricio Kagel, György Ligeti and Heinz-Klaus Metzger.
In 1970 he was offered a position at the Université de Paris VIII (Vincennes), where he taught improvisation, analysis, composition, interpretation, and electroacoustic and musical computer sciences until 1992. He has been a member of the Groupe Art et Informatique de Vincennes (GAIV) of the Université de Paris VIII since 1974.
Numerous concerts and study trips since 1975, have led Englert through Europe to Israel and the USA whereby concerts and studies with live electronics took precedence.
Since the 60s, Englert has used electroacoustics and electronic tape for his compositions and since 1975, the computer synthesizer. He formulates his concept of composition as such: "Etudier et mettre en marche les énergies qui se présentent; suggérer plutôt que d'expliquer; ignorer les notions 'méthode' et 'style'".
Giuseppe Giorgio Englert lives in Paris.
