Alfred Muff is one of the most sought after representatives of his field and a regular guest at renowned opera houses and concert halls the world over. Born in Lucerne Muff studied at Lucerne Conservatory and later at the 'Musikhochschule Berlin'.
His performances of the most varied of roles from the baritone repertoire during his already long-term engagement by Zurich Opera House has drawn much attention from the public and press. His international activities have led him to concertize with many celebrated orchestras and eminent conductors including Claudio Abbado, Herbert Blomstedt, James Conlon, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Eliahu Inbal, Erich Leinsdorf, Zubin Metha, Georges Prêtre, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Jeffrey Tate, Armin Jordan, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir Georg Solti, Horst Stein Gerd Albrecht and Franz Welser-Möst. The voice of Alfred Muff can be heard on LP recordings.
Important key appointments throughout Alfred Muff's career include engagements by the Milan Scalo, the Viennese State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, the Hamburg State Opera, the Dresden State Opera, the 'Opéra de Paris', the Bastille Opera House in Paris, the German Opera Berlin, the 'Staatsoper unter den Linden' in Berlin, the Cologne Opera, the San Francisco Opera, the 'Teatro del Liceu' in Barcelona, the 'Teatro Colon' in Buenos Aires, NHK Tokyo, RAI Torino, the music festivals in Taormina and Aix-en-Provence and the Vienna Festival Weeks. Alfred Muff dedicates a large portion of his time to concert literature in order to balance and complement his comprehensive stage activities. He has been a guest concert soloist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the 'Orchestra dell' Accademia di Sta. Cecilia Roma', the 'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande' in Geneva, the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, in the Vienna Concert House and 'Wiener Musikverein', the 'Brucknerhaus Linz', with the 'Bamberger Symphoniker' and at the Lucerne and Prague Spring International Music Festivals.
